Nooit bru? Serious?

They've never been popular in the SA "boy racer" market. Might be a hidden gem then.

Would motor would you go for and manual or auto?

Rohan, I see you only got 350km on a tank of gas in the SLK. Let's rather write that one out of the equation. Ain't nobody got time for that.

My father-in-law owned a 2010 SLK 350, that I was requested to drive to work and back on a few occasions. These are pretty quick... but the biggest problem is that from the drivers seat, you cannot feel the speed. The drive is way to refined for someone looking for a "drivers car".

S2000 is the way to go IMO... obviously i am biased in this regard. But like you mentioned, they are very pricey now. However, can be sure NOT to lose money on the resale of an S2000.

The 1st and 2nd gen MX-5 looks like they have potential. Maybe turbo-charge the std 1.8... or transplant a F20C or even RWD K20/K24 conversion. If you budget is max R250k, you can pick-up a neat 1st/2nd gen for around R100k and then the change can be spent on the mods.

My 2cents...

In the older shape go for the slk32. Thats the one you want and the one motorlease is referring to. very underrated car and well priced for what you getting... IMO

to be honest bro when we used to race with our 46 4pipe m3's...the c32 used to give us pak on sable.

there was a guy named ken with a silver slk32 that used to run at killarney consistantly with software and pulley upgrade doing msa 12.2-12.7 times on street tyres ...one of his dailys back then in 2010

check msa results 2010/2011/2012

also check out a mr2 with hardttop do a k20 swop maybe with lyle africa ..there one out of the LA racing stable seems to be making consistant times .

you need to answer yourself what you want outta the car ..fun sunday run around /looks dept must befresh and your motjie can also drive it without you worrying about it .

s2k is jas ovaprice for what it is ...slk 32 amg for the win ..has finesse jump in and go..you mos like long pad so it will drive well and cofortable better than a s2k /mazda /mr2 etc ..its comfy

Totally agree with your little life story here. Certain cars just seem to be way overpriced these days.

Add to your list the z3 as well. another fun little car which also seems to be bulletproof if maintained. Only issue with the 2 cars i recommended is that they're quite old

Buddy recently bought a 99 SLK230. For R90k. Was a steal.
They're actually very good cars and bang for buck. Also, they dont have glass gearboxes or Clutches like S2gay's (Hi Motorlease wink )
Personally, i'd go for the MX5. That one with the lexus v8 was built by Hylton Tiedt, iirrc, and man is that a lekker car!
If the pricing were reasonable (ie. R150kish) id consider the s2gay, but norra fork for over 200k, then you still need to spend money on a proper Gbox and clutch? Nee fokkit.
Personally, if I had a R200k budget, it's be a 135i / 335 E93.
Fortunately, I already have my dream car, so anything else is just 2nd best anyways
Don't let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda Civics with Spoon engines... and on top of that, he just went into Harry's and ordered three T66 turbos with NOS... and a Motec exhaust system...

motorlease wrote:i owned a slk55 - beast of a motor but with a 7g gearbox its lazy low revs and thirsty on juice and drives like a boat , however you will want to set the tyres alight lol..but that auto box will make you puke

s2000 well it goes without saying 7 years later and still a huge smile aint anything better out there man

after owning both and driving the odd miata as stock ...miata is well a mazda has no street cred and looks gay

Only with you driving man!

motorlease wrote:i would to be honest by an old slk32 , but it just looks dated however behind the wheel of that thing is superfast and can probs run with most cars if you do the pulley upgrade ...just olooks old but maybe a silver slk32 can work man .

Ty, that reminds me, why not consider a CLK AMG? yirre fok, those CLK 63 cabrios are hawt!
